Collection Highlights
"Ereignishorizont" is a remarkable artwork that can only exist in it's true form through the Cryptoart genre. An animated piece it uses the "Shatter Contract" from Transient Labs to allow the owner to break the single animated piece into 24 individual 1/1 artworks. The collector may reassemble the works back into 1 single animated piece, but only if they hold all 24 i.e. none have been sold.
As well as a stunning work in its own right, Ereignishorizont brings a level of collector engagement and performance art impossible without the blockchain.
ARTIST COMMENTARY
We asked Dominik to explain the concept behind this work and his feelings towards the opportunities for dynamic art within web3 and he kindly responded with the following:
"Ereignishorizont" is a multi-layered artwork that explores the intricate cycle of grief, a profound and universal human experience that can be challenging to overcome. Grief, which arises from the loss of a deeply loved one, unfolds as a complex web of emotions that transcends the boundaries of time and space. It can manifest itself in various forms, from intense mental and physical anguish to unexpected spurts of laughter, moments of madness, and a poignant, broken longing for the past.
The concept behind "Ereignishorizont" draws inspiration from the enigmatic workings of black holes, particularly their event horizon—the outer boundary where the gravitational pull is so intense that not even light can escape. Within this art series, different parts of a black hole are used as analogies for the various stages of grief, creating a compelling exploration.
Utilizing the shatter contract from TransientLab, this artwork is initially minted as an animated 1/1 piece and can optionally be shattered into 24 individual 1/1 illustrations. This offers an interactive and symbolic representation of the profound connection with a loved one and the subsequent loss. Just as grief shatters individuals into fragments of emotions, this artwork mirrors the fragmentation and the enduring desire for things to return to their original state.
The complexity and multiple layers of this topic pose a significant challenge. It's a subject as old as humanity itself, one that has witnessed various approaches and interpretations throughout art and history. A single painted canvas may convey much about this emotion, but you'll always remain a bystander, observing only one facet of it.
The beauty of modern digital art lies in the fusion of painting and coding, providing an entirely new dimension and interactivity to it that was previously challenging to achieve. This merge of digital tools opens the door for viewers to immerse themselves in the thoughts and feelings within this artwork.
