In Bloom
"Disappear" and "In bloom" are two of our favourite pieces, begging us to think more about the circumstances in which the subject finds herself and the emotions at play. "Disappear" has a focus on shadow and light, a motify used often by the artist.
The animated "Nostaligic Lights" is an example of the artist stepping away from the red pallet into rich purples and blues, along with a number of other pieces in the collection. These colour choices play as much a part in the scene as the subject herself and are key to the rich beauty that Taya creates.
ARTIST COMMENTARY
We asked Taya to provide some insight into her motivation and love for the work she produces:
"I am a digital painter and I describe my style as magical realism, which blurs the lines between reality and fantasy. I’ve been interested in mystery and spirituality since childhood and they are my main influences. The strong, contrasting shades help me communicate the deep and complex emotions, add a note of mystery and suspense. Painting to me is like a therapy - I can’t express myself through words, but I can do it through my artworks."
